A LOT CAN HAPPEN IN A YEAR

So, let’s talk resolutions, vision boards, prayer boards, and all that new energy that comes with the beginning of a new year.

It’s been a quiet month for me in some aspects, and it’s been a long silence, which has me wondering if this is the calm before the storm. This is assuming that the storm is not necessarily a bad thing.

If you’re still wondering what I am talking about, I am referring to the fact that I am still seeking employment. I am no longer anxious about it; in fact, I am more calm than I was literally six months ago.

So, up until now, I had no idea what I wanted to put on my prayer board for this year. It then occurred to me that a lot can happen in one year, and if I’m not paying attention, I will miss out on most of it.

What does this have to do with vision boards, prayer boards, and New Year’s resolutions? One year is a long time; the sun completes a whole trip around the sun and people get older, people get pregnant and give birth in nine to ten months, people get married, people fall sick and recover, others die (sadly), and others lose 100’s of kilos. That is just a glimpse of what happens within a time span of 12 months or less. This had me thinking about what I can get done in this amount of time. It made me realize that I need a plan that the year will not go by with me saying, I still have 11 months left; I can always start tomorrow. Tomorrow will never come.

That is why I have finally sat myself down and decided to do my first article of the year. A few days ago I made my first purchase of something I wanted because I kept saying I’d get it when I had enough money. (PS: I did not take up debt to buy this item; do not be misguided.) And thirdly, I read my first book and finished. It has 467 pages. This is a big deal; it’s been a month.

When I woke up this morning, I felt like I hadn’t done much with myself, but after remembering the things I had done, I also realized that I had not wasted away during this month either. I recognized that even without a prayer board and vision board, I can still get things done, so how much more will I achieve by setting up goals and putting plans in place to follow through? I’m not referring to a to-do list or a check list; I am referring to literal actions that move you closer to achieving a set goal.

With that said, I will segment the months left within the year; this allows you to check progress on your goals and visions for the year and it allows you to make adjustments where necessary.

Have a beautiful year, loves, and thank you for reading.
